JAMESTOWN – Halloween is still several weeks away, but right now is the time to celebrate the seed behind Halloween’s favorite fruit.

Yes, the pumpkin is a fruit, not a vegetable, and today is National Pumpkin Seed Day.

It is observed every year on the first Wednesday in October.

So as the temperatures drop, and the leaves change colors in anticipation of trick-or-treating; tide yourself over with a handful of pumpkin seeds as a nutritious snack.
