Officials with the Mayville-Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce say the centerpiece of their annual Presidents’ Day Weekend Winter Festival at Lakeside Park in Mayville should be constructed by Friday, February 14.

Built from blocks of ice off of Chautauqua Lake the massive castle draws onlookers from across the region.

The festival, which started in 1987, is scheduled to take place on February 15 and 16.

Organizers say the event will feature a number of new popular events and activities and continue many introduced in 2019, including the addition of a beer and wine tent, a pond hockey tournament and a children’s activity tent with activities planned by Camp Mission Meadows.

The castle will be lit at 6 p.m. Friday, February 14, followed by the Queen of Hearts Ice Ball under the festival’s big tent from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

A fireworks display, bonfire, flare parade, a polar plunge, a cold-water rescue demo by the Dewittville Fire Department, snowmobile rides, pet parade, a scavenger hunt and snowball distance throwing contest will also be part of the fun.
