VALHALLA (NY) – Governor Andrew Cuomo announced during his daily briefing Thursday that nobody can be evicted for a late rent payment until August 20.

“No one can be evicted for non payment of rent (until Aug. 20),” Cuomo said. “And we will see what happens between now and then…I hope it gives families deep breathe.”

Cuomo also says that he is banning late payments or fees for missed payments during the eviction moratorium. Renters that are facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 can use their security deposit as payment and repay their security deposit over time, according to the Governor.

Cuomo says “none of theses decisions are easy.” Cuomo adds he’s working to ensure the landlords are receiving help as well as they also have bills to pay.
