WEST ELLICOTT – The Southwestern Central School District has moved its instruction to remote learning as several students and staff are being quarantined by the Chautauqua County Health Department.
School administrators say students and staff in all three of its buildings are quarantined after coming in contact with residents who tested positive for COVID-19.
As a result of staff concerns, and as a precautionary measure, the district is moving to remote learning from Friday to Tuesday. The district is scheduled to start Thanksgiving break next Wednesday, with classes resuming on Monday, November 30.
School leaders say even though the county is not facing state requirements on district to move to remote learning, they are doing their part to slow the spread of COVID-19 as their infection rate in the district rises.
Last month, a teacher working at the district’s elementary school tested positive for COVID-19, the first case of virus reported in the school since the outbreak began.
