FALCONER – Santa Claus will make a visit to the Village of Falconer today at 10 a.m.

Officials from the Falconer Rotary and the Village cancelled this year’s traditional Santa Claus parade last month, but are planning another way to welcome Christmas cheer.

Instead, officials say Santa Claus will be escorted by the Falconer Fire Department around the village.

Mayor James Jaroszynski says he wanted to provide the Village with some Christmas positivity while also trying to keep residents safe.

“We just wanted to give our residents some form of the Santa parade,” Jarozynski said. “We know that we can’t, because of the statewide COVID and the nationwide COVID, you hear locally our county, our numbers, you see the numbers everyday from Chautauqua County. We just wanted to try to give our residents some sort of holiday cheer a little bit. Not canceling the Santa parade totally, but kind of redoing it a little bit and restructuring it a little bit.”

Children and their families will be able to see Santa as he passes through their neighborhoods. Santa’s ride around the village will be begin at SKF on Elmwood Avenue. He will then wind his way around the village aboard the Old Mac Fire Truck.

Updates of Santa’s whereabouts in the village will be posted to the village Facebook page throughout the morning of Dec. 5th.

Officials say this will provide families a little advance notice of when Santa will arrive in their neighborhood. Mr. and Mrs. Santa are reminding all good boys and girls (and their families) to please remember to wear their masks and to social distance throughout this event.

Due to COVID-19, Santa will not be able to stay and greet children at the Santa House this year.
