BUFFALO – A Cattaraugus County woman has plead guilty to distribution of child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo says 46-year-old Melanie Thompson entered the plea Tuesday.

Thompson allegedly took sexually explicit photographs of a child for several years starting in 2017.

She also allegedly impersonated the minor, engaging in sexual conversations with two underage males and an adult online.

During those exchanges, prosecutors say Thompson sent and received other sexually explicit images on social media.

Sentencing is scheduled for June. The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum of 20 years, and a $250,000 fine.
