JAMESTOWN – Starting Thursday solid waste customers with the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities will need to solely use their new garbage cans.
The BPU says all of the cans, minus smaller cans requested by some residents, have been distributed across the area.
Garbage that is not placed inside of the new cans will be collected with a $25 fee, and $5 per additional bag. Starting January 1, 2022, bagged garbage outside of the bins won’t be collected.
Earlier this year the utility company announced the new garbage can rollout.
Jamestown residents will be seeing a long-awaited program take into effect.
The new containers are made specifically to fit BPU trucks, with an automatic tipper doing the heavy lifting.
If a customer has an unusual amount of garbage that will not fit into the BPU-issued container in a specific week, they are asked to contact the Garbage Hotline at (716) 661-1651 to make special arrangements.
