JAMESTOWN – An investigation into a mid-afternoon fire at an abandoned Jamestown house is underway.

The Jamestown Fire Department was called to 130 Water Street around 3:30 p.m. Sunday for smoke coming from inside of the structure.

Fire crews tell WNY News Now the blaze likely started in the basement, and was easily extinguished.

They say the house, which was condemned, was to not be occupied following a previous fire at the location.

There were no utilities connected to the structure, and officials say the blaze is under suspicion of arson.
