DUNKIRK – The investigation into a June 11 homicide remains ongoing more than three-and-a-half months later.

New York State Police Captain Eric Balon tells WNY News Now that his unit is following up on leads in the death of 41-year-old Andrew Garner. Balon says, however, that he’s unable to share any additional information at this time.

Troopers from the State Police Barracks in Fredonia responded to a welfare check on State Route 5 in the Town of Dunkirk just after 2:30 a.m.

They say a male subject, later identified as Garner, was found dead at the scene.

“There’s no question this is a homicide,” Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt told WNY News Now back in June. The District Attorney, however, did not provide specifics when asked why his office and State Police determined the shooting was a homicide.

Any information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the NYSP at 716-679-1520.
