SUNSET BAY – Residents living in Sunset Bay are evacuating the area as Lake Erie floods the coastline community on Saturday night.

Reports indicate water was over two feet deep with the first floor of many homes flooding around 6 p.m.

Heavy winds gusting up to 56 m.p.h. were also reported, which contributed to the flooding.

A High Wind Warning remains in place until 11 p.m. with a Lakeshore Flood Warning for a rapid rise in water levels along the Lake Erie.

Earlier in the evening heavy winds caused waves to overtake the Lake Erie breakwall in Dunkirk.

Officials expect the damaging winds will also likely blow down numerous trees and power lines; some property damage is also likely.
