JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown Police officer was seriously hurt during an assault at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital on Friday.

Officers responded to the medical center to assist staff with a out of control patient around 5:55 p.m.

As officers were attempting to verbally deescalate the situation, police say the patient attempted to punch an officer in the face.

A struggle then ensued, and an officer with the department sustained “serious physical injury” which required immediate “emergency medical treatment,” the department said.

Charges for the alleged attacker are expected. The officer, officials say, was treated and released from the hospital.
