ALBANY – The COVID-19 positivity rate across the Empire State has dramatically declined.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the news on Sunday.

She says upstate New York’s caseload out passes downstate, however. Over 51,000 new cases were reported over the weekend, down from a peak of 90,000 cases earlier this month.

“So very good news, also good news on the COVID front. The numbers are continuing to head down, but take it seriously,” said Hochul. “Upstate is still not out of the woods yet, but it’s going to get there, and that is something we’ve at all looking forward to.”

Western New York in particular, Hochul says, has the highest positivity rate of all of the regions of the state clocking in at 21 percent.
