JAMESTOWN – A new restaurant has officially opened in Jamestown Thursday, and they are filling a much needed role in their community, authentic Puerto Rican cuisine.

El Morro is owned and operated by siblings Karla Medina and José Echevarría, who noticed a drought of their cultural food in the area.

The pair opened their doors to dozens following a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“We need a business like this in Jamestown,” Medina explained. “We need our people, our community, the culture, they need that.”

“It’s been great,” stated Echevarría. “Everything’s been awesome, we’ve been steady, busy, and grateful. We look forward to being here for a long time, and keep serving the community with good food and great service.”

El Morro is located at 845 East Second Street and is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
