ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – Late last week a judge finalized and released new congressional maps for New York’s 23rd district as well as 63 state senate districts.  The Friday at midnight deadline was set by Justice Patrick F. McAllister of the State Supreme Court in Steuben County.

The state-approved new congressional district lines back in February but the Court of Appeals said the lines were gerrymandered to favor Democrats and give them the advantage.

A court-appointed judge released a draft of the new congressional district lines on Monday.

The court concluded that was unconstitutional and redrew the district lines.

The state’s redrawn 23rd District includes most of Erie County, along with all of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Steuben, Chemung, and Schuyler counties

These new district lines will remain in effect for the next 10 years.
