JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – After a two year hiatus, the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival returns this week, with organizers expecting thousands of tourists to flood the Jamestown area.

Historically, the five day comedy festival has welcomed 15,000 people to Jamestown from nearly every state. This year, the comedic event touts some pretty big names.

“We have Margaret Cho, on Thursday August 4th at the Reg Lenna, Tickets are still available for her show,“ explained Megan Echwahl, manager of marketing and communications. “On Friday night, Jeff Foxworthy is performing two shows at the Northwest Arena; the early show is sold out, but tickets are still available for the evening show. And Saturday are the legends of SNL. Which features David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Kevin Nealon.”

Organizers believe that comedy is a necessity, especially now.

“Since we were last able to hold the festival a lot has happened,“ says Echwahl. “We’re all in need of laughter more than ever before.”

With more than 50 events planned, the 2022 Comedy Festival really does have something for everyone.

“We have over 50 events planned over the five day period of the festival,“ stated Echwahl. “So as you can imagine it’s all hands on deck here as we wrap up some of the planning. We have live comedy, we have family entertainment, live music, wonderful food vendors, really something for everyone this year at the festival.”

In the end, planners say the sheer amount of comedic genius coming to Western New York this week is nothing short of astounding.

“It’s just phenomenal, the caliber of talent that’s going to be descending on Jamestown New York, August 3rd through 7th,“ explained Echwahl.

Both the National Comedy Center and the Lucy Desi Museum will have extended hours for the duration of the Comedy Festival which officially kicks off on Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
