JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – The Lake Erie Big Horns of the United States Premier Hockey League are coming to the Northwest Arena in Jamestown this Fall.
A statement posted on their website reads that, “The Lake Erie Bighorns are proud to announce that we will be playing in Jamestown, NY this season.”
Back in May, the Jamestown Rebels of the North American Hockey League was sold and relocated to Philadelphia. Soon after the announcement, Northwest Arena management went to work looking for a new team.
The Lake Erie Big horns have played in Erie Pennsylvania since the 2018/2019 season. Before becoming the Bighorns, the team was originally the Southern Tier Xpress of the North American Hockey League Tier 3 that played in Jamestown.
When it was announced that the Jamestown Rebels were coming to Jamestown, the Xpress along with the other five teams of the East Division in the NAHL3 moved to the Great Lakes Conference of the United States Premier Hockey League Premier Division. The Xpress were sold to new ownership and became the Lake Erie Big Horns and played their home games at the ErieBank Sports Park ever since.
The USPHL is the largest amateur hockey league in the United States founded in 2012.
The announcement goes on to state that “Jamestown is a great community and place to play Junior hockey. Stay tuned for more great news!”
