DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WNY News Now) – Nearly 40 employees of a immunotherapy company in Dunkirk are expected to be laid off.

This is according to a WARN notice filed last week from ImmunityBio. The company paced 38 employees on inactive status and announced they will lose their job as of December 28.

Last winter, ImmunityBio assumed the lease of Athenex’s manufacturing facility. As part of the deal, they were expected to create 450 direct jobs and bring $1.52 billion investment over ten years.

The plant planned begin producing COVID-19 vaccines this fall. Before that, Athenex was slated to manufacture cancer drugs.

Just two weeks ago another major business in Dunkirk, Wells Enterprises, announced similar layoffs.
