WARREN, Pa. (Erie News Now) — For over seven years, First Lutheran Church in Warren, PA has been doing food distributions with Second Harvest Food Bank to help residents in the area.

“I’m thankful for this because it’s helped me in many ways to get through the tough times, and I appreciate everyone that works here. They’re all friendly, and even the pastors prayed for us on occasion when we needed it,” one participant of the distribution effort, Mary Bernard said.

When the church first started this monthly event, they gave out food for 120 families. Now, they’re down to just 80.

” We’ve actually lowered our numbers, simply because, the need hasn’t changed, but more organizations and churches do a Produce Express in other areas in warren county,” Pastor Jeff Ewing said.

Volunteers for the distribution include members of First Lutheran Church, members from other nearby churches, and general members of the community.

“We have never in our church had a problem getting enough help to distribute this food, I can’t say enough about our church. If there’s a need, people are there to help fill that need,” Colleen Whitmer, Coordinator for Produce Express Ministry at First Lutheran Church, said.
