JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) — Chautauqua County is attempting to decide whether commercial air service is the best thing for Jamestown, and $25,000 has been approved to conduct the study to find out.

The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency Board approved funds to conduct the Airport Market Analysis Study which will determine if people are actually going to utilize the Jamestown Airport and how often.

This feasibility study is the missing piece in an application to the Department of Transportation. It is the County’s intention to use the study to work with an airline in the application for an EAS designation.

County executive says there is also a plan in place in the event that the study doesn’t go the way they expect.

A resolution is anticipated to be brought before the County Legislature in February to secure the remainder $50,000 needed to fund the study.
