JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) — The Prendergast Library continues its commitment to encouraging Jamestown residents to read. In fact, they are launching a new adult book club that comes with a twist.
“At the beginning of the year, a lot of people have New Year’s resolutions to read more and I think for a lot of people, especially if you haven’t been reading a lot lately, it can feel hard to get back into it,” said Danielle Bertolini, the assistant library manager. “Or sometimes you just want a little bit more community, and so doing a book club is something that can help with that and I think can really engage people more.”
This concept is a new pairing for the library, combining books and brews.
“We decided to do it at Brazil, partially just because we thought it would be fun,” explained Bertolini. “We thought it would be great. It’s a little bit more of a relaxed environment. It’s an environment that a lot of people have gone there, people are comfortable with the space. And so we wanted to just kind of make it feel like a comfortable social event that also encouraged reading.”
Brazil Craft Beer and Wine Lounge will host the first ever Books and Brews Book Club on Wednesday, February 8th.
“We could all use somebody in our lives, it’s nice to meet new people,” said Librarian Hannah Dewey. “It can be a little daunting, but if you have something like a book that is just set, you need to talk about this during this time, there’s no other expectations. Just for you to kind of give your opinion, what you thought about the book. And then see what other people think and from there, maybe you have the same opinion on the book. Maybe you’re differing a little bit, but that’s a conversation starter.”
Brazil will have their full evening menu available, including coffee, wine, and of course, beer.
