JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – Working alongside state leaders, Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist is pushing for bail reform changes in rural communities.

Mayor Sundquist told members of the Jamestown City Council Monday that he has been talking personally with New York Governor Kathy Hochul to “reform bail reform”.

He wishes to have bail reform in rural areas, like Jamestown, be set at the discretion of judges.

In Mayor Sundquist’s opinion, a change like this is needed for the City of Jamestown.

“It does provide discretion to judges under the bail reform,“ explained Mayor Sundquist. “So I will send you all some more information on that as well. You are all very well aware of the challenges we have here in Jamestown, and I personally expressed to the Governor the fact that we have a lot of issues when it comes to bail reform here in the City of Jamestown. And the sooner that that can be passed, the sooner that we can deal with a lot of issues that we see on a recurring basis here.”

While this has not gone into action yet, the Mayor hopes that the initiative is taken.
