ERIE, Pa. (Erie News Now) — Emily Smicker, Marketing & Events Coordinator for the Zoo, says they’re excited to introduce the park’s guests to new animals and projects that were installed over the winter break, or will be installed in the coming months.
“There’ll be a few detours, maybe a few eyesores, but we want you to come out and see all the progress,” said Smicker. “It’s also a wonderful way to get involved with your zoo. We are a nonprofit, so every visit, every membership, every concession purchase, gift shop visit, ride on the carousel… All of that helps projects like these.”
Among the new animals arriving will be:
- Two African black-footed penguins
- Two Red Pandas who arrived in the Fall
- A rescued screech owl from Tamarack Wildlife Center
The Zoo is also hoping to expand the Wild Open Spaces for several of its animals. More information on the campaign can be found here.
While the official opening was March 1st, the Zoo plans to hold a grand reopening event on Saturday, March 4th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission will be free thanks to UPMC Health Plan. More information can be found here.
