Horseheads, N.Y. (WENY) — With every day that passes, pollen season inches closer and closer threatening people with red eyes, runny noses and worse.

Pollen is a powdery substance, which plants and grass produce. Dr. Warren Chin, of Arnot Health, shared the different methods you can use to reduce the effects of pollen.

Dr. Chin said,” There are medications you can use for allergies. You got your basic Antihistame, Claritin, Zyrtec and Allegra. There is one that stops histamine from being released, called singular (also known as Montelukast). These allergy effective drugs can be easily prescribed. They even invented a nasal spray that push the Antihistame directly into the nose.”

Dr. Chin said that there are non medical ways that you can use in addition to medications, like a black seed oil and an ionizer.

The ionizer puts a charge onto the dust particles, which causes them to stick on the walls instead of being in the air.

With the black seed oil, you have to ingest one or two teaspoons per day.

Black seed oil made from black turmeric , which is a major anti-inflammatory.
