A growing number of students are using artificial intelligence to help them complete their coursework.

ChatGPT is a language model. Its primary function is to engage in conversations with users and generate appropriate responses to their prompts. ChatGPT can understand and respond to questions on a wide range of topics, including education, healthcare, finance, and entertainment.

To learn more about this technology, we tested ChatGPT. Erie News Now Digital Producer Ariana Moyer was impressed by the AI’s human-like responses as well as how quickly the technology was able to produce a response. The technology was able to generate a response to a variety of different topics in a matter of seconds. We found that this technology is very user friendly and widely available.

We asked administrators at Gannon University if they were concerned about the potential of students using ChatGPT for academic misconduct.

“We suspect some students are turning in some of their work utilizing the AI sites because they are so human-like now and so difficult to detect. There has been a lot of concern not just here, but across all of higher education,” said Chief Online Learning Officer Tex Brieger.

However, educators are working to stay relevant as technology rapidly advances.

“Faculty are encouraged to create assignments that utilize the sites in conjunction with what’s happening in the classroom so that students can’t utilize the AI sites alone to do their assignments.”
