Volunteers with the Red Cross are stepping up to help out communities affected by last week’s storms and tornadoes.

A total of 10 volunteers from the overall region have been deployed to Arkansas and California, with more expected in the coming days.

The storm outbreak last Friday spawned more than 50 tornadoes in 7 states, killing at least 32 people.

“Red Cross volunteers are awesome people. They really are in this mission to help others and it’s in their hearts,” said Mary Roger, Erie Red Cross. “They just love helping people when the chips are down and things are going wrong.”

Volunteers are going to help with distribution efforts, by providing clean up kits, blankets and cases of water.
