ALBANY, NY (WENY)– During New York’s last week of legislative session, some advocates travel to Albany to urge state lawmakers to pass a bill that would legalize medical aid in dying.
Legislation this like is implemented in ten other states and the District of Columbia.
A few weeks ago, Assembly Member Amy Paulin (D-Assembly District 88) who has carried this bill for eight years, said she didn’t think it was going to go through. Tuesday, she said the bill has gained momentum.
“I believe when this bill comes to the floor, it will pass the Assembly with resounding numbers,” she said.
Paulin said there is a stronger possibility of it passing than they’ve ever had before. Some lawmakers in the Senate also said there is similar momentum in their chamber.
This bill is one of hundreds that could pass this week as session comes to a close.
