JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – A Jamestown man was coincidentally caught fleeing the scene of an accident early Saturday morning.

Jamestown Police were patrolling Crescent Street when they noticed a vehicle driving with no lights at around 2:12 a.m. on June 24.

After stopping the car, police determined that the driver, 69-year-old Douglas Smith had hit a parked automobile about 100 yards away and was attempting to flee the scene.

Smith was released on-site, but was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage accident along with several other vehicle and traffic offenses and is due in the Jamestown City Court at a later date.

No one was injured during the accident and the owner of the struck parked car has been notified by the Jamestown Police.
