JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – A local chef who has made an appearance in Channel 716’s ‘So You Think You Can Cook’ cooking competition is now making her way up the chain in another competition, ‘Favorite Chef’.
‘Favorite Chef’ Presented by Carla Hall is a competition that allows chefs to showcase their talents and compete for several prizes while simultaneously raising awareness for the James Beard Organization and chef Camille Hodnett is up for the challenge.
“When I win the $25,000, I’m going to purchase a food truck because I want to be able to feed my community. I’m already feeding the community, I feed the homeless at the soup kitchen, but my goal right now is to have Cami’s Kitchen up and running to everyone, everywhere,” said chef Camille Hodnett.
Hodnett has a vision of what she would like to invest the prize money in, and how she can help her community while doing so.
“At my food truck I envision having lines, lines down the street. I wanna feed them soul food with a touch of Mexican flare. You’re going to get home-cooking on-the-go, hot, fast meals that are with our trending times. People are on-the-go, you don’t have time to cook, you want a food truck that people can walk up to and get a full meal at a reasonable price,” said Hodnett.
Hodnett explains what puts her apart from other chefs.
“People say, ‘Cam, you have plates today?’ I never make plates, I do dinners, because a plate you’re gonna get a protein and two side dishes, with Cami’s kitchen you’re going to get protein, your steak, chicken, fish, ribs, oxtails, seafood broil, and about five side dishes,” Hodnett said.
The chef explains the driving factor of her motivation.
“I had people say I couldn’t make it this far without you and I’ve only made it this far because of my community, my friends, family and fans. I wanna be the fan favorite, I wanna be their person,” Hodnett said.
The voting for the Favorite Chef competition is open, and results from the Wildcard Phase will be announced Monday afternoon. To vote, those interested can visit favchef.com.
