Albany, NY (WNY News Now) – The New York State Comptroller’s Office has successfully returned $268.4 million in lost money to rightful owners in 2023, averaging $1.5 million in returned funds daily.

The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) has been actively reuniting New Yorkers with their lost money, reclaiming an impressive $268.4 million in unclaimed funds so far this year. These unclaimed funds originate from a wide range of sources dating back several decades. Currently, the Comptroller’s Office holds 49 million unclaimed funds accounts.

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli wants to ensure that every New Yorker has the opportunity to access their rightful money. “My office holds billions in unclaimed funds, and we want to make sure that every New Yorker has the opportunity to access their rightful money,” said DiNapoli.


Residents can search for and claim their money by using the online claim system or by calling 1-800-221-9311.
