Lightning Strike Injures Two Campers


Saranac Lake, NY (WNY News Now) – Two campers were injured after being struck by lightning while camping at the Follensby Clear Pond boat launch in the Village of Saranac Lake.

On August 4 Forest Ranger Adams was patrolling the Follensby Clear Pond boat launch in the Village of Saranac Lake, and witnessed a lightning strike incident that resulted in injuries to two campers.

The victims, a 34-year-old individual from Pennsylvania and a 44-year-old individual from Syracuse, were camping in a tent located at the base of a tree that was struck by lightning. The lightning strike not only hit the tree but also directly affected the two campers.


Despite the severity of the lightning strike, both individuals were able to stand and were subsequently transported onto a boat. They were safely taken back to the boat launch area and later transferred to the hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
