Ellicott, NY (WNY News Now) – Ellicott police encountered an intoxicated driver in the early hours of August 12th, leading to the discovery of a loaded handgun during a routine well-being check on Fluvanna Ave.

On August 12th, at approximately 3:00 AM, Ellicott police responded to a vehicle pulled over on the side of Fluvanna Ave. Upon approaching the scene officers discovered the driver Joseph A. Fontanez Walker, 33, to be intoxicated by alcohol.

During the investigation a subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted. Law enforcement officials uncovered a loaded handgun inside a bag that originally belonged to the operator, Joseph Fontanez Walker.

Fontanez was arrested without incident and faces multiple charges including Driving While Intoxicated and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Fontanez was released from custody with an appearance ticket. He is slated to appear before the Town of Ellicott court at a later date for further legal proceedings.
