DEC Seeks Public Input on Amended Cleanup Proposal for Jamestown Superfund Site

(WNY News Now) – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has called for public participation in response to an amended cleanup proposition for the Essex; Hope Site #907015 located in Jamestown, Chautauqua County, as part of the State Superfund Program.

Jamestown – The DEC is encouraging public engagement regarding an updated cleanup remedy proposed for the Essex; Hope Site #907015, a State Superfund Site situated at Hopkins Ave. & Blackstone Ave., Jamestown. The proposed remedy aims to address contamination issues linked to the site.

Public comments concerning the proposal will be accepted by the DEC until September 15, 2023. To foster discussion and gather input, the DEC has organized a public meeting on September 7, 2023, at 5:30 PM.


The meeting will be held at the James Prendergast Library’s Fireplace Room, located at 509 Cherry Street, Jamestown, NY 14701. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the proposed remedy, voice their opinions, and seek clarifications.
