(WNY News Now) – Ukrainian national has been apprehended and indicted on charges of wrecking and submerging a vessel, providing false information, and sinking it in a navigable waterway.

BUFFALO – Ukrainian national Vyacheslav S. Migitskiy, 33, of Rochester, NY, is facing a decade in prison and a $250,000 fine. Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango detailed the incident, citing a report by the U.S. Coast Guard about a waterlogged 1987 25’ Bayliner near Little Pond, Rochester, on August 26, 2022.

A search and rescue operation ensued, costing over $15,000. A probe identified Migitskiy, who had allegedly deliberately sunk the boat. Surveillance footage corroborated witness testimony, showing him launching the vessel before towing it into the lake with a different boat he owned.

Migitskiy was presented before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark W. Pedersen and released on specific terms. The inquiry involved several agencies, including the Coast Guard Investigative Service and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
