(WNY News Now) – The Olean Fire Department acted swiftly to contain a shed fire at 915 Prospect Avenue, preventing further damage to neighboring properties and averting a potential disaster.

Olean – Olean Fire Department’s Engine 42 and 41 were dispatched to 915 Prospect Avenue at 12:52 pm in response to a shed fire. Within 4 minutes of receiving the call, the crews were on the scene, confronted by flames and billowing black smoke emanating from the structure. Inside the burning shed were two lawnmowers, gasoline cans, a propane tank, and lithium batteries.

The intense heat even caused the siding of adjacent structures to melt. In a coordinated effort, the Olean Police Department moved a vehicle situated between the shed and a neighboring home, while Engine 42’s crew deployed a hand line to douse the blaze. After extinguishing the majority of the fire, they repositioned to tackle the remaining flames.

Following the containment of the blaze, crews conducted overhaul operations to eliminate any remaining hot spots within the charred remains of the shed. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Investigation Team.

The City of Olean Fire Department issues a reminder to all citizens, urging them to call 911 in the event of a fire and to refrain from attempting to extinguish even small fires themselves.
