WNY News Now) – The 2023 summer season at Lakewood Beach, situated within Richard O. Hartley Park at Chautauqua Ave and West Terrace Ave, officially concluded on August 31, marking the end of a season filled with community and water-based activities.

Lakewood – Former Village Trustee/Deputy Mayor, Mr. Richard O. Hartley, left a lasting legacy with a generous donation to the Village of Lakewood, dedicated to the construction of the Richard O. Hartley Beach House. This facility, named in memory of his beloved wife, Frances “Frankie” Hartley, has served as a hub for beachgoers since its dedication on June 25, 1994.

Throughout the summer, the park has been a vibrant hub for water activities and beach recreation, including popular volleyball games. As school gears up to start, Lakewood Beach bids farewell to the carefree days of summer, where children played, swam, and ran freely. However, the promise of another summer beckons, reminding the community that this cherished gathering place where water and community converge will soon reopen its shores.

Until next summer, Lakewood Beach remains a place where the Lakewood community continues to honor the memory of Richard O. Hartley while enjoying the beauty of the lake.
