Man Wields a Knife at a Jamestown Public School

(WNY News Now) – A 20-year-old Jamestown resident was arrested on Tuesday morning after displaying a knife and making threats towards students outside a Jamestown Public School.

Jamestown – In an incident that unfolded on October 18, 2023, at approximately 8:14 AM, the First Platoon of the Jamestown Police Department responded to a distress call at an unspecified Jamestown Public School. The report concerned an individual in possession of a weapon. Subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Devon E. A. Diers, aged 20, had allegedly brandished a knife and issued threats to multiple students congregating outside the educational institution.


Swift action was taken to ensure the safety of the students, and Devon left the scene. However, with the assistance of a Jamestown Public School Safety Officer, law enforcement quickly located and apprehended him. Diers was found to be in possession of the aforementioned knife, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Devon E. A. Diers now faces charges, including one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree, five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and five counts of Menacing in the 2nd degree. He remains in custody, pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.

The Jamestown Police Department continues to investigate the incident, working to ensure the safety and well-being of the school’s students.
