(WNY News Now) – A 43-year-old from Niagara Falls, confessed to the class D felony of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree before Niagara County Court Judge John Ottaviano, revealing a disconcerting case of financial exploitation against an elderly woman he cared for.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman disclosed that Sturdivant, who served as a home healthcare aide from 2019 to 2020, admitted to embezzling from his elderly client. The victim, who has since passed away, endured financial loss at the hands of the caregiver. Sturdivant now faces a potential jail term of up to a year following his guilty plea. The sentencing is scheduled for January, adding a legal consequence to his actions.

In addition to the criminal penalty, a confession of judgment is set to be entered against Sturdivant in the amount of $347,971. This restitution will be directed towards the heirs of the elderly victim, aiming to compensate for the financial losses incurred during the period of Sturdivant’s employment.
