JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (WNY NEWS NOW) – High pressure will maintain dry weather for the first half of the weekend on Saturday. Widespread rain will arrive across the region Sunday afternoon, with lake effect snow looking possible as we head into next week.

Partly to mostly cloudy skies will be found across the area on Saturday with high temperatures in the lower 40’s.

Sunday will start off dry with mostly cloudy skies. Widespread rain will begin to overspread the region by the mid-afternoon hours and continue into Sunday evening.

Highs temperatures on Sunday will reach the mid-40’s.

As colder air filters in Sunday night, leftover rain showers will transition into snow showers.

The combination of colder air and enough moisture look to set the region up for a period of lake effect snow heading into early next week.

Monday lake effect bands will transition from rain to snow and focus on the Buffalo metro area.

As the winds shift Monday night into Tuesday, lake effect snow bands with shift South across Southern Erie county and into the Southern Tier.

Snow will accumulate, though it’s still too early to pinpoint exact totals and band set-up.

It’s possible the National Weather Service may issue lake effect snow advisories or warnings for lake effect snow next week.

Outside of lake effect next week, temperatures will be quite chilly. With highs only in the upper 20’s to lower 30’s.
