JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (WNY NEWS NOW) -Significant lake effect snow will occur late Monday through late Tuesday night across the Southern Tier and Northwestern Pennsylvania.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning is in place until 7AM Wednesday for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming, and Southern Erie counties in New York. Heavy lake effect snow is expected. Total snow
accumulations of 8 to 16 inches are likely in the most persistent lake snows with local amounts up to 20+ inches across the Chautauqua Ridge.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for McKean County in Pennsylvania until 4AM Wednesday. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 7 inches are likely within the advisory area.

Besides the lake effect snow, winds gusting as high as 30-40 mph may result in blowing snow as well as low visibility. Travel Monday night and Tuesday could be very difficult to impossible within these bands.

Outside of these lake effect bands, it will be generally quiet with mostly cloudy skies and just some occasional snow showers.

Temperatures over the next few days will be quite chilly with highs ranging from the mid 20’s to near 30 degrees.
