Multiple Structures Damaged in Dunkirk Fire

(WNY News Now) – The Dunkirk Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 535 Columbus Ave. early on 11/5/2023, affecting multiple buildings and prompting a collaborative effort with neighboring departments.

Dunkirk, N.Y. – At 6:35 a.m., emergency services were alerted to a fully involved fire at 535 Columbus Ave., with 533 Columbus heavily impacted. While 535 Columbus was vacant, all occupants of 533 Columbus safely evacuated.

Firefighters swiftly deployed multiple hose lines and an elevated master water stream to contain the rapidly spreading blaze, which threatened surrounding structures. Five buildings incurred damage, leading to the emergency demolition of 533 and 535 Columbus. Ten occupants from 533 Columbus are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters. Investigators were on-site to determine the fire’s cause. Mutual aid from East Dunkirk Fire, Fredonia Fire, CCEMS, and ALSTAR EMS bolstered the firefighting efforts.
