(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo NY has issued a Winter Storm Watch from January 11, 9:48PM EST, until January 15, 7:00AM EST, warning of potential heavy lake effect snow and gusty winds.

Residents in Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie counties should brace for challenging weather conditions as total snow accumulations exceeding a foot are possible in persistent lake snow areas. Wind gusts may reach up to 65 mph on Saturday and Saturday evening, with somewhat lower winds anticipated during the lake effect snow event. Travel is expected to be extremely difficult, with widespread blowing snow likely to significantly reduce visibility. The NWS advises caution and notes the possibility of localized travel problems due to narrow bands of heavy snow impacting specific regions. Stay tuned for updates as the storm progresses.
