(WNY News Now) – A 43 year old Jamestown man is facing charges of Arson 3rd and Criminal Contempt 2nd after allegedly intentionally starting a fire in a northside apartment, violating a stay-away order.

On 1/15/24 at 1:58 PM, authorities responded to reports of a potential fire at a northside apartment in Jamestown. Investigation revealed Jared Leroy inside the residence, which lacked utilities, with a female victim holding a valid stay-away order against him. Despite the victim’s apparent willingness to be in his company, Leroy intentionally ignited wood in an electric stove for heating, causing damage to the apartment.

Leroy has been charged with Arson 3rd and Criminal Contempt 2nd. He is currently held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the incident. The apartment, damaged by smoke and fire, has been condemned by the Department of Development. Authorities from Jamestown Police, Fire Department, and Department of Development collaborated in responding to and investigating the incident.
