(WNY News Now) – East Aurora, NY – New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli reveals significant procurement issues within East Aurora Union Free School District, Erie County, raising concerns about competitive practices and potential financial mismanagement.
In a recent audit, officials from East Aurora Union Free School District were found to have neglected competitive procurement practices, according to the New York State Comptroller’s office. The board and district officials failed to update procurement policies and ensure compliance with state laws, leading to non-competitive purchases of goods and services. This oversight, affecting 91% of professional service contracts and 100% of purchase and public works contracts audited, amounted to $1.8 million and $443,734, respectively. The absence of competitive pricing and documentation poses an increased risk of taxpayer dollars being spent inefficiently. Notably, the district did not request proposals for 43 professional service contracts in the last five years.
