(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – A routine response to a shoplifting incident at Big Lots turned into a dramatic river rescue as 23-year-old Jamestown resident attempted to evade arrest.
On Jan. 31, 2024 at 11:12 AM, officers responded to a shoplifting in progress at Big Lots. Huntyr M. Swanson, found behind the store near the river, entered the water, prompting a perilous situation. Unable to rescue her, officers called the Jamestown Fire Department for assistance. With their help, Swanson was pulled to safety near Institute St. After being evaluated for hypothermia at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital, she was charged with Petit Larceny and Resisting Arrest. Swanson was released with an appearance ticket for Jamestown City Court.
