(WNY News Now) – The former Clerk for the Town of Lincoln has pleaded guilty to petit larceny for embezzling nearly $4,000 from the town. The plea follows a joint investigation by Comptroller DiNapoli’s Office, the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office, and the New York State Police.

In a plea agreement, Amy Becker, 54, admitted to misappropriating funds during her tenure as town clerk from 2018 to 2022. Comptroller DiNapoli expressed gratitude to the partners involved and emphasized public servants’ responsibility to taxpayers. New York State Police Acting Superintendent, Steven G. James, praised investigators for uncovering Becker’s misuse of trust. The audit by DiNapoli’s office revealed a cash shortage, prompting the investigation. Becker, who pleaded guilty to petit larceny, paid full restitution of $3,869. She received a one-year conditional discharge in the Town of Lenox Court before Judge Stephanie Palmer.
