(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – The American Red Cross of Western New York is set to launch its annual Sound the Alarm initiative in Jamestown, dedicating efforts to enhance fire safety in a community disproportionately affected by home fires.
In its ongoing commitment to bolstering community safety, the American Red Cross of Western New York has designated Jamestown as the Signature City for this year’s Sound the Alarm initiative. The program, a key component of the Home Fire Campaign, focuses on providing crucial resources to frontline communities, emphasizing the installation of up to four free smoke alarms in homes lacking them, and delivering fire safety education along with family escape plans.
Data analysis conducted by the Red Cross indicates a pressing need for intervention in Jamestown, where home fires have disproportionately impacted the community. In response, the organization is mobilizing resources and volunteers to address this critical issue.
Mark your calendars for the Sound the Alarm Day of action scheduled for Saturday, March 23. Volunteers will convene at 8:30 a.m. at Milton J. Fletcher Elementary School, 301 Cole Avenue, before embarking on the mission to install 350 free smoke alarms in 90 identified homes. There are various ways to contribute to this community initiative, from joining the installation team as a volunteer to notifying the Red Cross if your home requires free smoke alarms or making a donation to support the associated costs.
Jamestown, renowned for its strong sense of community, is urged to actively participate in the initiative. The Red Cross aims to leave a lasting and lifesaving impact on the city, emphasizing the need for collective efforts in fostering a safer living environment. Visit www.soundthealarm.org/wny for more information, volunteer opportunities, or to request a free smoke alarm.
Acknowledgements are extended to the American Red Cross for investing in Jamestown and its citizens. Heartfelt appreciation is expressed to all volunteers and participants for their invaluable support in strengthening the community’s safety net. Join hands with the Red Cross and fellow community members in making Jamestown a safer place for all.
