(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Patrick Slagle has resigned from the Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education. Slagle has served on the board for almost 12 years and has served as the board’s vice president since 2017. Slagle’s resignation comes following his acceptance of a new position with the New York State Court System, which has a requirement that its members cannot serve on public boards.
“It has been an honor to serve as a board member and vice president of the Board of Education,” Slagle said. “I am thankful for all the support over the years from my family, the staff, teachers, administrators, and most importantly from the community. I believe that, working together, we have
made Jamestown Public Schools a premiere educational system that truly helps students prepare for the future, and doing so while being responsive to the taxpayers. I am again very grateful for this opportunity, and I wish nothing but the best for the board, the schools, and the students in the future.” A proud JHS graduate, Slagle was first elected to serve on the board in 2012. Prior to his newest position, he served as Chautauqua County Attorney. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Political Science from SUNY Jamestown Community College, and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from SUNY Brockport. He received his Doctorate’s Degree in Law at the University at Buffalo Law School.
I would like to first thank Mr. Slagle for his years of service to the Jamestown Schools,” said Paul Abbott, Board President. “He has dedicated hundreds of hours to the students, staff and families of our district. He will be missed not only as an experienced board member but to me personally as we have been partnered as President and Vice President. I will miss our many conversations as we worked through various matters. I am truly sorry he is leaving, but I wish him all the best and am very grateful to have worked with him.
“Patrick has been a remarkable board member – one who throughout his tenure has been focused on what is best for students and best for the community,” said Dr. Kevin Whitaker, JPS Superintendent. “His input and influence has been consistently wise counsel for the board as a whole as well as for members of the capital project committee and the budget and finance committee. While this is a great loss for our school board, I am happy for him that he has achieved this next milestone in his promising career. He is a talented individual who, in whatever role he fills, will continue to do much good throughout our region and our community.”
The Board of Education will announce next steps in filling Slagle’s vacancy during its March 26
meeting.
