(WNY News Now) – New York – In response to mounting concerns over homelessness amidst a humanitarian crisis, The Legal Aid Society and the Coalition for the Homeless have brokered a temporary settlement with the City of New York. Under the guidance of Judge Gerald Lebovits, the agreement ensures the preservation of the Right to Shelter for single adults, a vital lifeline for vulnerable individuals. Governor Hochul has lauded the compromise, emphasizing its importance in providing safe shelter for both long-standing residents and newcomers.

“I am pleased to see an agreement reached between the City of New York and Legal Aid that will allow the City greater flexibility while still ensuring that both longtime New Yorkers and new arrivals have access to safe shelter. I have been proud to partner with Mayor Adams in helping to manage the current humanitarian crisis, including by providing $4.3 billion in state funds, and am committed to continuing our support while the Biden Administration works towards a longer term federal solution.”
