(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, NY – During a routine traffic stop on May 7, 2024, at approximately 3:09 pm near Allen St and King St, Jose L. Santiago, a 31-year-old Lakewood resident, was apprehended by officers from the Jamestown Police Department and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for alleged possession of a loaded firearm and narcotics.

The incident unfolded as law enforcement conducted a partnered Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) patrol. Santiago’s vehicle was pulled over for suspected New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. Subsequent investigation revealed that Santiago, a previously convicted felon for attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, was allegedly in possession of a loaded 9mm pistol, which he was legally prohibited from owning. Currently under Chautauqua County Probation supervision for the prior charge, Santiago was taken into custody and transported to Jamestown City Jail.

Further search at the jail allegedly uncovered a quantity of cocaine allegedly in Santiago’s possession, resulting in additional charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th. As of now, Santiago remains held at the Jamestown City Jail, pending arraignment at Jamestown City Court.
The charges against Santiago include Illegal Window Tint, Unsafe Tire, Consumption of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th.
