Falconer Resident Faces Multiple Charges After Hit-and-Run Incident
Steven M. Sandberg, 40, of Falconer, faces several serious charges after a reckless driving incident on May 31st. Sandberg has been charged with Reckless Endangerment in the first degree, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the second degree.
The incident occurred at 4:36 p.m. when the Town of Ellicott Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian accident at the intersection of W Main St and S Work St. According to authorities, the victim was struck by Sandberg’s vehicle while using a crosswalk.
As officers arrived, Sandberg fled the scene towards Jamestown at high speed, prompting a pursuit involving both the Ellicott and Jamestown Police Departments. The chase spanned several streets before Sandberg eventually surrendered to police. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Chautauqua County jail.
The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and received treatment at UPMC Hospital.
